Argyle slipped to yet another frustrating 1-0 defeat on Tuesday evening- just two changes were made from the home defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday as Yoann Folly and Jamie Mackie were recalled in place of Joe Mason and Ashley Barnes. It was the Welshmen who made the quickest start, taking mere seconds to test Romain Larrieu in the away goal as Nathan Dyer and Besian Idrizaj exchanging quick passes before the keeper narrowed the angle. The ball then fell to debutant David Cotterill- on loan from last weekend’s opposition- who drove in an attempt which Kari Arnason headed off the line and thus spared his goalkeeper’s blushes. But the Swans weren’t finished in the attacking third as Joe Allen and Angel Rangel both tried ambitious efforts, though mercifully they only found the side netting,
But having survived the onslaught a brief moment of attacking threat almost caught the hosts by surprise after Carl Fletcher took on David Gray’s throw in and scuffed a shot through a mass of legs before seeing it cleared seconds prior to it reaching Dorus De Vries in the home goal. And on 20 minutes Argyle’s afternoon took a turn as Folly pulled up injured, Chris Clark sent on to replace him as Swansea soon eased back into a passing rhythm with Dyer pulling the strings to feed Idrizaj, who took advantage of a lapse by Shane Lowry to go one on one with Larrieu, who beat him to the ball by seconds. Fletcher again proved himself a thorn in the opposition’s side minutes before half time when he crossed for Rory Fallon, whose header went harmlessly wide prior to Federico Bessone doing the same from a free kick. |

The interval saw Paulo Sousa replace Allen and Idrizaj with Lee Trundle and Gorka Pintado- a move which paid off around ten minutes after the start of the second period when the two combined, Trundle finding the net after a near post run. Now the Pilgrims needed to find a response and Fallon and Mackie combined in the box, Mackie appealing for a penalty after a foul by Alan Tate but no such luck though moments later Alan Judge found Fallon, whose header was deflected wide.
Much of the remainder of the match was spent keeping the Swans from scoring another as they looked to seal the win in a bid to consolidate a play off spot, and they continued to pass their way around and frustrate the men in green who were tasked with stopping them in their tracks. In the last minutes this frustration became too much for Lowry who was sent off for a second bookable offence to compound his side’s misery before the final whistle signalled another loss.
