More TV favourites head for Boro

Comedy fans look set for a real treat next year, with Julian Clary, Sean Lock and John Bishop the latest big names to be confirmed for brand new shows as Middlesbrough Town Hall continues to build a growing reputation as one of the best venues in the country!

Julian plays the Town Hall Crypt as part of his ‘Lord of the Mince’ tour on Sunday 7 February; John Bishop plays the Crypt on Sunday 21 March, while Sean Lock plays the Town Hall the following night on Monday 22 March.

The news comes hot on the heels of brand new Boro dates announced last month by top TV comics Dara O Briain and Sean Hughes - and add to a mouth-watering line-up of brand new Boro Town Hall shows for 2010 including Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle, Rhod Gilbert and Stephen K Amos.

A big part of the 80’s comedy explosion and still one of the best live comics around today, Julian Clary is loved by millions thanks to huge TV hits including Friday Night Live, Sticky Moments and Strictly Come Dancing.

Star of BBC2’s QI and team captain on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 cats, Sean Lock brings his brand new ‘Lockipedia’ tour to Boro, while John Bishop is one of the fastest emerging comics on TV thanks to storming appearances on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Skins and 8 Out of 10 Cats to name just a few.

Looking forward to his Middlesbrough show, Julian Clary said: “I have done for mincing what Michael Flatley did for Irish dancing.

”In these difficult times I feel I should go and comfort my people in the provinces. My friend Damien tells me the men are very hard up in Middlesbrough. I only hope I’m not too late.

”I’m 50. The shame of it. This will be an intimate evening – a celebration, no less, of my twenty-five years in the camp spotlight: how I got there and why I refuse to leave.”

The growing 2010 line-up follows a record-breaking year for comedy at the Town Hall.

Top names including Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Jason Manford, Rob Brydon, Dylan Moran, Andy Parsons, and Ed Byrne have all played sell-out shows at the Town Hall this year, while the hugely popular Big Mouth Comedy Club continues to bring some of the best comics on the UK circuit to the Town Hall Crypt on the first Saturday of each month.

The new shows are a continued team effort between Middlesbrough Town Hall and promoters Ten Feet Tall, who are both delighted with the growing line-ups for next year.

Laura Hannaway from the Town Hall said: “The news just keeps getting better and better for the Town Hall. Audiences are amazing, comics love playing here, and we’re hugely looking forward to 2010.”

Graham Ramsay from Ten Feet Tall said: “We’re chuffed to bits with these new shows. When you look at the people we’re bringing to Boro in 2010, it’s easily the best line-up we’ve had so far.”
