Comedy fans have yet another huge treat in store, when American stand-up legend Rich Hall brings his brand new show to Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt on Monday 13 May.
Known to millions thanks to bags of top telly including Live at the Apollo, QI, Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and plenty more besides, his grouchy onstage persona saw The Simpsons creator Matt Groening base the character of short-tempered bartender Moe on Rich himself.
Hugely successful across the Atlantic after writing and appearing on the legendary Saturday Night Live and the David Letterman Show, the Perrier Award winner is also one of the best live comics of the last 20 years – wowing fans and critics alike with countless sell-out UK tours, the Edinburgh Fringe and comedy festivals worldwide.
Renowned for his brilliant audience banter, Rich’s shows are also famed for tailoring every gig to the particular town he’s playing - and Boro promises to be no different.
Rich said: “I have always loved doing live comedy more than anything else. I really look forward to the fact that every night is different. Anything that anyone says on the night can become a key word that you can play off.
“I also do a specific song in every single town. I take into account the history of the town and what it’s known for, and then bring in things that have happened in the first half of the show.
“Whenever I ask, ‘What’s this place famous for?’, I always get an amazing response. So let’s see what happens in Boro.”
Graham Ramsey of promoters Ten Feet Tall said: “Rich is an absolute legend as far as I’m concerned. I’ve never seen anyone think faster on their feet, and he always goes down a storm.
“His audience banter means that every show is completely different, and we always jump at the chance of bringing him to Teesside. Yet another top gig in the diary.”
