Final Day Damp Squib
I really hate it when we bow out of a season with a whimper. We did all that and more on Saturday with the most insipid of final day performances. After playing so well away at Wolves, Hull and Bolton I really thought we might finally get 3 points in our final away game. In fact we surrendered any chance of finally getting an away win this half of the season with a pretty spineless display that also handed Championship survival to Sheff Wed on a plate. I bet their opponents were ....

Boro Draw Level To Spare Blushes
Boro made a disastrous start to the final home game of the season, a goal down within seconds of the start there was a second soon to follow only a big comeback after the break prevented defeat. Charlton Athletic's late tilt at the play offs was shot down by Emnes and McDonald's goals. Things had looked rosy for the London team in the first period as they gave us a rocky ride but the tables were turned late in the second period.
The main pre-match talking point in this low key end of season ....

Out Of Luck At Bolton
Boro lost 2-1 at the Reebok but it was a game with plenty of controversy and talking points. The losing run continues away from the Riverside but we weren't dealt the best hand at Bolton. Not to be back to back victories then for Boro but real bad fortune in losing this penultimate away game at Bolton Wanderers.
The team relegated from the Premier League have had a season that has been the mirror image of our own but yesterday they had a couple of huge slices of luck in edging us ....

Can Boro Beat Bolton?
Boro finally ended the losing streak with a morale boosting 1-0 win over Billy Davies Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. Can we now end the terrible away run? Victory on Tuesday came too late to save this season’s promotion chances destroyed by our annual post festive slump but this was the downturn to end all downturns. But can we end in a flourish?
Does it matter at all now what we do in these final three games? The play off damage is already done, is it not. Yet there is professional ....

Calm Down And Carayol
Boro finally came good and chalked up a victory against Nottingham Forest last night making it a much relieved Riverside. It might be too little too late for the Championship play-offs but those three points were so very welcome after our horrendous run of late. Tony Mowbray had been asking for a break and a goal and that is what we got through Muzzy Carayol a couple of minutes before half time. The world seems a little better place now.
There were a few different faces in the Boro ....

Game Over: Boro 0-2 Brighton
Massive frustration yesterday, anger and disappointment as Boro's faint promotion hopes were finally extinguished in a 2-0 defeat to Brighton at the Riverside. Not that any of us had any realistic hopes in the first place going into this game but another highly damaging defeat ramped up the pressure on the Mowbray regime still further in a campaign that is now so hard to watch. He and the team need to come out fighting on Tuesday night.
In this ridiculously schizophrenic season it ....

Boro Stalemate
No goals for Middlesbrough and a goal less draw on a deeply frustrating night at the Riverside.
The two Boro teams battled out a 0-0 draw last night to frustrate a half empty stadium. Thank goodness I didn't do a fanzine the crowd looked to be the smallest ever. A win would have lifted Peterborough out of the drop zone and Darren Ferguson's side did force a number of first half corners but a win was all important to the real Boro and try as we might we could not make the all important ....

Defeat At Wiolves:end Of The Road
No Easter resurrection for Boro at Wolves, the basement club fought tooth and nail for a precious 3 points and ended the last glimmer of play-off hopes for Boro. It must have been a superb game for neutrals with chances galore at both ends but there were no neutrals for a contest where so much was at stake. Boro's hopes effectively ended with Kevin Doyle's headed goal.
It was a sunny but freezing cold day and all credit to them, despite their incredible fall from grace a crowd ....

Dismal Home Defeat For Boro
Another disastrous defeat for Boro as we slumped 0-1 to Birmingham at the Riverside. The Boro fans left gutted and bemused at how a team that was sitting so pretty at Christmas time is playing so ugly and being defeated by all and sundry. It makes for another appalling Saturday night and two weeks to mull over another deeply damaging defeat.
Any hopes of a late Boro revival seemed to have been well and truly nipped in the bud by this home defeat to Lee Clark’s Birmingham who now join a ....

Boro Battered At Bristol
Boro's faltering season lay in ruins from a devastating 2-0 defeat at Ashton Gate. That is the way it appeared to Boro fans facing up to a 5 hour return journey having witnessed a bruising loss at bottom club Bristol City. Coming not long after the 4 goal hammerings at Ipswich and Crystal Palace this felt like a new low. The season appears to be over now and we are hurting badly, we need to salvage some pride.
A much changed Boro side slumped to defeat and meekly surrendered a double ....

Boro Go Down At Town
Boro's delight turned to torment last night as we went down 2-1 to two late, late goals in the fog at Huddersfield. With Forest amongst others that won elsewhere the pressure is really on Boro now. We have a real battle on our hands to climb back into the play off hunt and we'll need to really step up from this performance to do it.
It was a damp squib of an affair for much of last night's game. The rock hard pitch didn't really allow either side to play much football but the ....

Boro Blast Back With Loan Hero
Boro blasted back to form by beating league leaders Cardiff thanks to first half goals by free transfer signing Kieron Dyer and new loan man Sammy Ameobi. Ameobi’s goal was a real pearler, beating two men before a planting a peach of a shot into the top corner. But it was a win only secured after a backs to the wall, nail biting finish as Cardiff flung everything including the keeper and the kitchen sink at us. That made it taste even sweeter still. What an important win that could be at ....

Boro Hold Heads Up High In Defeat
Boro pushed Chelsea all the way last night but in the end didn't have the firepower to break through the thick Blue line of the cup holders defences. A big crowd of 28 000, with a large away following, made this seem like a Premier night and one we now must battle to get back to through the League. If we play with this spirit and commitment and get a better rub of the green we may yet have a good chance of hitting the top flight.
You wouldn't know that Boro have been struggling for ....

Boro Defeated.
The Riverside defences were blasted apart once again as Millwall arrested their freefall to inflict massive damage on Boro’s promotion chances. With Brighton having won before kick off Boro fell out of the top six and the play off positions. Our form this year is seeing us rocking so badly we might just roll right out of contention completely. Let’s hope against hope we can pick up again against the better opposition we must face next week.
A very poor crowd of just over 15 000 ....

Boro Battle Back At Burnley
Boro battled to a 0-0 draw at Turf Moor last night. After recent away hammerings it was a real confidence booster to keep a clean sheet. After keeping it really tight in the first half we might have gone on to win the game late on when we attacked Burnley in the last quarter of the game. But most away fans went home satisfied that we had got back some stability again away from the Riverside.
After recent trouncings on the road at Ipswich and most recently at Crystal Palace Boro ....

Boro Slaughtered By The Eagles
Saturday was a complete nightmare for Middlesbrough. After the sheer relief of Tuesday's 4-1 win over a Leeds we were taken apart again on our travels and what makes it even worse was that it was a promotion rival winning at a cantor against us. It will be a long road back again but we must take it immediately against Burnley on Tuesday. We simply must improve. Dramatically.
Palace came at us from the very start of the game at Selhurst Park in front of a big expectant 17 000+ crowd. ....

Main Man Scores Winner For Boro
There was a night of high drama at the Riverside as Boro did it at last and broke our duck for the year. But what a fight it was to hang on to the points. Yes, we recorded a win at last and didn't it make it all the more special that we finally stopped the run of defeats against Leeds? And not to mention manager, Neil Warnock.
Sometimes it is just meant to be. Finally we defeat Leeds at the Riverside but Oh what a final 10 minutes we had to endure. Down to ten men and facing an aerial ....

Boro Plunge To Fifth Straight Defeat
Barnsley came back from behind to beat Boro 3-2 at the Riverside. The Tykes had taken the lead to a lucky deflection but made Boro pay for more defensive blunders in the second half to record a fourth straight win. Sadly the stats don’t look too good from a Boro point of view, five defeats in a row in the league and still no league points in 2013. We should be dropping like a stone, except amazingly we are not. But that charmed life won’t last for too much longer, we must find a way ....

Boro Hammered By The Tractor Boys
Boro were hammered 4-0 at Ipswich Town yesterday. It was the lowest point of the campaign as the Tractor Boys trampled us under foot.
What made the defeat even harder to stomach was the fact Ipswich had been a team struggling for confidence and points near the foot of the table. Most of the home fans might have come expecting the worst in this game but instead the travelling Boro fans endured a worst case scenario. What a long, long journey it was back from Suffolk. And it will be a ....

Can Boro Get Back To Form At Ipswich?
Boro could do with a win this weekend at Ipswich. After an awful January (as per usual) we need to put those results behind us and go on a bit of a run, starting at Portman Road. With two home games to follow there is the chance for a bit of momentum.
Kieron Dyer is fit to make his debut, whether in midfield or the right back berth he occupied recently for QPR v Gareth Bale. Muzzy Carayol could be back on the bench, what a difference having him back could make.
Tony Mowbray was talking this ....

Juke Gives Boro Shot Of Relief
Phew! The Juke certainly saved our bacon yesterday. With a midweek replay beckoning in deepest Hampshire the former Coventry centre forward bustled and hustled his way to a vital winner for Boro. A full six minutes into time added on, Lukas Jutkiewicz forced his way past the Aldershot defence before shooting wide of the keeper but into the corner of the net. Thank goodness for that.
It was a cold day that started very early for Boro and council staff clearing the stadium surroundings ....

Boro Undone At Leicester
Boro crashed to a third successive defeat in the snow at Leicester. A 'get out of jail not quite free card' was passed up when Schmeichel guessed correctly to save Marvin Emnes 90th minute penalty. Afterwards, many Boro fans said they felt that we would have stolen a point. Certainly Leicester played pin ball with the woodwork, hitting both bar and posts. Yet I would say on the balance of play and for attempting a passing game early on, that we should feel hard done by to return from ....

Boro Stung By Watford
With just seconds to go before the half time whistle skipper Rhys Williams gifted a goal to Watford and paved the way for a costly home defeat. Boro had looked comfortably in control of the game but had failed to turn that superiority into goals. With the half time whistle and maybe some tactical shifts by Mowbray fast approaching, Rhys attempted to chest the ball back to Jason Steele but instead only teed it up for the lightning quick Vydra to nip in and score. Disaster. 1-0.

Boro Win Battle With Hastings
It was a memorable day at the Riverside as Boro overcame the history men from the deep south, Hastings United. Boro moved into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup but only after overcoming a determined display by non league opponents including an outstanding goal. A day not to be forgotten when the FA Cup was indeed a little bit magical.
A good crowd of over 12000 witnessed plucky little Hastings United first footing in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup with over 1000 making the long journey from the ....

New Year: Pride Before The Fall
Boro started 2013 with a crashing defeat at Derby. After two magnificent home victories Boro we were swept off Pride Park, out played from the start and looking for all the world like a team that had played one match too many in the busy festive fixture lottery. It was a huge disappointment for the many that travelled (packed into the lower tier) and no doubt all those that listened at home. Hopefully we can use the next week and a half without league games to come back recharged and ....
