David Wheater’s goalscoring performance at Ipswich caught the eye of the judges as he was selected in the Football League team of the week.

I’m sure it wasn’t all down to his towering headed goal, the Redcar Rock was an absolute powerhouse throughout the 89 minutes + following Daryl Murphy’s shock 1st minute goal.

After what might have been a shaky start the new Wheater/McManus partnership settled in a treat and dominated the Ipswich forwards. The giant centre backs looked so comfortable together that there were signs that it could be a formidable partnership forming for Boro.

The way big Davey Wheater buried that second half chance it was like watching former Boro and Ipswich (and Celtic) legend Tony Mowbray again. I don’t think there is a higher compliment to bestow on a Boro centre back than comparing him to captain fantastic, Mogga.

Each week, the Official Football League website brings you the Team of the Week. Produced by the Press Association, the Team of the Week features the eleven top performing players from each division from this weekend's matches.

This week, the Coca-Cola Championship Team of the Week features Middlesbrough defender David Wheater. The defender scored the equalising goal against Ipswich to gain Middlesbrough a valuable point with the game ending 1 -1.

The full team of the week can be found on The Football League website
