Sodje for manager?

Sounds stupid but he's been coaching at Bury I believe, so must have something about him?

That'd get the 'against all odds' mentality going - I can imagine him prowling the dugout getting things going. Would also expect he'd be a fan of decent football.

I like the idea, new manager doesn't have to have a previous Macc connection but i'd prefer it.

I have heard (second hand info warning here) that he would love to manage a team somewhere.

Well, if that were the case then I think we could certainly do worse.

World Cup experience.

Macclesfield Town legend.

Coaching experience.

Years and years of experience in the domestic game, from non-league right up to the Championship, with all the knowledge and contacts that implies.

The more I think about it, the more I'd genuinely love to see it. The media would be interested too because he's such a good character.

I can certainly see where this post is coming from. I can see the advantages, and I was a big fan of Efe when he was here.

I know that all the great managers had to start their careers somewhere, but I will still be surprised if the board plump for someone with no managerial experience whatsoever.

I think that given our recent and prolonged impression of a lead balloon, they will be looking for a 'safe pair of hands', i.e. someone with a decent track record in the BSP.

We have to make sure that the BSP is a springboard, and not another trapdoor.

I'd be more cautious about it. I love Efe but are we sure he's the right man?

We are in the BSP and looking at the history of ex-football league teams in there not many have come out. Ignoring the financially f**ked teams like Stockport, Darlington you have teams on a similar size to us like Lincoln who finished 17th, Grimsby mid-table and teams like Kiddersminster, Luton, York, Masnfield, Wrexham that have been there for a bit and have had to rebuild several times.

Macc have "apparently" got a decent budget for 2 years to try and get back into the league, after that we have to cut back. We need to the right players in and the right management team. Are we going to put all our eggs into one basket by having Sodje in? We've had this gamble before with Brightwell. He had the best intentions of playing it on the deck, attacking football but he was sacked and KA brought in to rescue it.

Nothing stopping him been an assistant though [^]

All fair reservations of course and there'd be no guarantee of success (never is in this game!).

However, if we were to go down the ex-pro / youngish, ambitious manager route, who better than a guy who has played at a World Cup?! His football career makes him a very interesting choice before you add in the bonus 'X factor' that he would unite and excite the club, and be a fascinating, exciting character to boot.

I just have a feeling he'd be the shot in the arm we need and has the genuine, objective football pedigree to go along with his MTFC status, and clear leadership qualities (pretty much everywhere he's been).

Plus I imagine he'd put the fear of God into the fourth official if badly enough irked!

Sodje has been to watch Macc at least once this season - in the Henshaw Stand a couple of weeks ago - so he may have been sussing us out; he can't have come for pleasure. The last few weeks have been like going to a restaurant and coming out with food poisoning - not just once, but over and over again!

I'm glad it's over so I can relax. I think Horton should go tomorrow (why keep paying him?), and I think John Askey should take over. I hear he is reluctant, but cometh the moment, cometh the man. There may not even be a paid youth team job for him next season, so he might as well start now. He's a bright bloke and must see his options shrinking fast.

Players to try and keep for next season? Only a handful. Most of them aren't THAT bad, but as a 'team' were latterly sadly lacking I am afraid. There seems to have been no plan, and we have been second to nearly every ball for weeks. I think many of them will be joining our ever growing unemployment queues in the next few weeks.

Feel a bit down like most fans, but come August I hope many of us will realise just why we love this game and be back.......

There will be a youth team next year - the funds are provided for the first year after relegation . After that , who knows .

Bringing back Sean would be an inspired move [^][^][:D].

A natural leader who genuinely cares about the club, and appreciates the fans. TOP BLOKE [^][:D].

Kind regards.

Apologies if Sean Hessey was mooted as a player and not manager. As a player we could do much worse. However, as a manager I, along with countless others would sooner see Efe in the dugout than Sean.

I definitely meant as a player (and most definitely captain) BD but he would be also be a very good shout for the role of assistant player manager IMHO [^][:D].

Sean could then do his coaching badges (if he hasn't already) and seamlessly step into the role of manager when it became available should he wish to do so!!

Kind regards.

I see that Efe is 8/1 to be the next manager, actually shorter odds than Sir John.

Looks like the bookies have been reading this forum - I hope the Board of Directors have too!

'You'll never beat the Sodje'!
