It only seems like two minutes ago that the 2008/9 season finally ended, however the Football League have already announced their framework for the 2009/10 campaign.
It has been confirmed that the season will commence on Saturday 8th August, with Macc hoping to be given a home start for the first time in six years.
The following week, the Carling Cup kicks in to action and everyone will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s successes which culminated with that memorable evening at West Ham.
Over the last few years The Silkmen have pitted their wits against the likes of Leicester City, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Blackpool at the first round stage and the draw for this year’s ties will take place on 16th June.
Other dates to look out for are Boxing Day (which falls on a Saturday this year) and a second helping of festive football on 28th December.
However, the League have scrapped the traditional New Years Day fixtures, deciding to postpone them until the following day (2nd Jan).
Within the fixture lists, it has been agreed that all League Two sides will have six midweek matches scheduled in addition to two bank holiday games. However with recent seasons in mind, these midweek games are not likely to be local, they are more likely to be Dagenham and Grimsby!
Personally there is only one fixture which I will be looking out for come June 17th and that will be the trip to Torquay. I have missed not staying in Fawlty Towers over the last couple of years and hope that the League do us a favour with the timing of this!!!
The fixtures are released on June 17th at 10am
