that everything in the garden is rosy, just because we won. This was yet another shockingly bad batting performance, and unless we improve there is every chance of us repeating last year's position.

The worst batting line up I have known.

Bowling attack is impressive - especially with Buck and Naik to come in.

Hope Jefferson is back soon to bolster the batting.

yes it is. A very weak batting line up last year loses it's bright young star and it's overseas and you replace them with 1 overseas. Needed another solid bat to open with Jefferson.

I'm sure we have the lowest budget in the country but when you take into consideration that Taylor, McDonald, New, Gurney and Nixon are off the payroll, it makes you wonder where that money has gone.

As well as Sarwan and Joseph, I suppose we have given deals to Eckersley and Dixey but can't imagine they would earn much.

We should get Cobb to open with Smith and move Boyce down to 5th whilst Jefferson is out, he's always played better lower down the order, If Cobb gets a quick 20/30 it will give us confidence and a start to the innings!

We need at least one opener who knows how to put down roots and build an innings.

The beauty of following Leicestershire is that the garden is rarely rosy because we are such a small county, expecting to lose our players and yet still manage to win trophies. What is it? Two county championships and three Twenty20s in the last 15 years. Compare that record to any of the other smaller counties... Derby, Worcester, Northants etc have won probably, nothing! Despite everything Leicestershire is an amazing success story which makes my active support of 40+ years even more pleasurable. Yes, it would be better if the club had more money and could hold on to its better players but you just never know what's round the corner!
By the way best game at Grace Road has to be that win over Kent last year. And I was one of the silly old buggers doing the conga behind Nico.

Welcome to the board sorrelite.

Yes, we've been a success story over the last 15 years but I think times are tough financially at the moment. I didn't expect us to win anything last season, so the T20 victory was a fantastic surprise.

I believe we now have our weakest playing squad in living memory though and I think from now on all we can ask for is a slight improvement each season.

The worrying thing is though, if we do have any young players who perform well (potentially players like Buck, Smith, Cobb) then we will lose them to other counties (like Taylor) regardless of them being under contract or not.

The contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. It's about time transfer fees were introduced in cricket to protect counties like ourselves.
