| Seeing as The Roof is the fountain of all knowledge (especially when it comes to identifying mink) I need some help. I've got a DVD that I burnt myself on my DVD player (so it's not copyright protected). There's about an hour of footage on it. Firstly - how can I copy/convert the DVD into a video file on my computer (avi or jpeg etc)? And then, what's the best software to use to edit the video into lots of short clips and then put together with still images and music to make a DVD? Mac or PC. I have access to both. Many thanks. | |

| Use Handbrake or DVDRipper to convert the video file on the DVD. It usually converts it to a mpeg4 format by default. But those programs will allow you to specify a few outputs. Then if you are looking for a free piece of kit to edit it then Windows Movie Maker is probably your best bet. I don't do much of this myself but that's probably the best way to go about doing it. | |

| No no, nothing exciting like that. My old cat, which lived with my mum because the wife is allergic to them, died yesterday. So I've got a load of old video footage of her when she was a kitten, plus a load of photos and I wanted to make a video collage of the cat on DVD for my mum because she's very upset about it. No pussy jokes please at this difficult time. | |

| Not sure how seriously you want to take this Pete and therefore whether you want to spend some money.... ...if so you might want to have a look at Adobe Premiere - cheaper end of the scale and not bad for desk-top editing. We use it from time to time in the office with very basic UGC stuff when we don't want to use proper post-house facilities and an editor. | |
