Famous for raising their own stars in recent years, Arsenal have few English players. However, the ones that they do have are interesting young players who are hot prospects for the future.

Kieran Gibbs – Defender
Slowly gaining more experience through recent performances for Arsenal, and a 2008 loan to Norwich City, Kieran Gibbs is shaping up to be a strong possibility to challenge for the England left-back position. He has been a fairly regular player for the younger England teams, and is currently gaining more experience at Arsenal during the absence of Gael Clichy. Fabio Capello has hinted that there may be a surprise or two in his World Cup squad, and Gibbs was one of the names that many suggest might fill these places.

Theo Walcott – Midfielder

The pacy winger has come on well since his controversial inclusion in the World Cup 2006 squad. He has put in some great performances for both Arsenal and England. However, there are still questions over his consistency, and the quality of aspects of his play other than his speed. He has run superbly down the wing only to deliver a poor cross countless times, and this is something that really needs to be addressed before he can become an ‘untouchable’. However, there is no doubt that Theo Walcott would be a valuable asset in South Africa next year.

Jack Wilshere – Midfielder

The seventeen year-old attacking midfielder has not had much of a look-in on first team action at Arsenal yet, but has featured regularly in the younger England teams, netting two goals for the England Under 17s between 2007 and 2009, in eight appearances. Arsenal’s youngest ever league debutant scored twice and was twice awarded Man of the Match in the 2009 Emirates Cup. Since then, he has been involved in a controversial incident in the Carling Cup, being accused of overreacting to a push from West Brom’s Jerome Thomas in order to get him sent off. Fabio Capello has hinted that there may be a place for him in the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad, but with a lack of real first team experience, it is debateable whether he is experienced enough to go to South Africa.
