Whilst some positions in the AVFTT 'Team of the Noughties' have been a one horse race (with one or two donkeys trailing at the back), the central midfield position has been one of the most keenly fought. In the end there were two places up for grabs and the margin of victory was sufficient that both Charlie Adam and keith Southern comfortably found their place in to the side.

Adam lead the poll from the off and is the player in the side of the decade with the least Blackpool appearances to his name. That said, it's a reflection of just how much the fans admire the player that he picked up 37% of the vote in a category that was full of potential winners. Keith Southern's place in the side should never have really been in doubt. He's been Mr ever-present in midfield and at times has had to run the show himself. From the complete injutsice of being left out of the LDV Vans Trophy side to Stephen McMahon jnr (shudder) to him lifting the Play Off winning trophy at Wembley just a few seasons later, Gnashers has always had a place in Blackpool fans' hearts. Never one to shy away from a challenge, always in the thick of things and again on Tuesday at Middlesborough he proved his worth in the side. In the end, Southern collected 27% of the vote. Here's how the rest of the players stacked up:

Charlie Adam 232 Votes (37%)
Keith Southern 172 Votes (27%)
Richie Wellens 117 Votes (19%)
David Vaughan 41 Votes (7%)
Phil Clarkson 32 Votes (5%)
Claus Jorgensen 18 Votes (3%)
David Fox 17 Votes (3%)

So maybe the big surprise was that Richie Wellens didn't make the final two. A player who has continued to show his worth elsewhere and am sure had it not been for so many contentious appearances for opposition sides would have made the team of the decade. David Vaughan picked up 7% of the vote whilst Phil 'the Ghost' Clarkson was still fondly remembered by 5%. Two players who were worthy of mentions for their appearances in the 'Perfect 10' Claus Jorgensen and David Fox mopped up the rest of the votes.

So the team of the noughties now looks like this:

GK: Paul Racubka
RB: Shaun Barker
CB: Ian Evatt
CB: Peter Clarke
LB: Stephen Crainey
RM: Martin Bullock
CM: Charlie Adam
CM: Keith Southern
LM: Wes Hoolahan

We're currently looking for our best striker of the last ten years before we open the voting for the final category which is for the best manager.
